Overview

Winco Earthworks ("Winco," "we," "us," or "our") is a professional excavation and earthworks contractor based in Tappen, British Columbia, serving the Shuswap region and surrounding communities.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of anyone who visits our website at wincoearthworks.com. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and your rights in relation to that information.

This policy is written to comply with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA BC), which governs the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by private sector organizations operating in British Columbia.

Because our website is straightforward — we do not sell anything online, process payments, or operate a newsletter — this policy is intentionally simple. We collect only what we need to respond to your inquiry.

1. What Personal Information We Collect

Winco Earthworks collects personal information through two sources only:

a) Contact Form Submissions

When you fill out the contact form on our website, we collect:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your email address and/or phone number
  • The content of your message

You are not required to provide both an email address and a phone number — the form accepts either. You choose what contact method you share with us.

b) Website Analytics (Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Search Console (GSC) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use our website. These tools collect technical and behavioural data automatically when you visit wincoearthworks.com, including:

  • Your approximate geographic location (city/region level — not your precise address)
  • Your IP address (processed by Google; we do not store this directly)
  • The type of device, browser, and operating system you are using
  • Pages you visited on our site and how long you spent on them
  • How you arrived at our site (e.g., through a Google search, a direct URL, or a referral link)
  • Search queries used to find our website (via Google Search Console)

This data is aggregated and used to improve our website. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or any third-party tracking beyond Google's analytics tools.

2. What We Do Not Collect

To be clear about the scope of this policy, Winco Earthworks does not collect:

  • Payment or financial information of any kind — we do not process transactions through our website
  • Newsletter subscriptions or email marketing lists
  • Account credentials or login information — our site does not have user accounts
  • Sensitive personal information such as health data, government identification numbers, or financial records
  • Information from children — our services are intended for adult property owners and contractors

3. Why We Collect Your Information

We collect personal information only for the following purposes, each of which a reasonable person would consider appropriate given the nature of our business:

  • To respond to your project inquiry or request for a quote
  • To contact you to arrange a site visit, discuss your project needs, or follow up on a previous conversation
  • To understand how our website is performing and how visitors find us, so we can improve our content and user experience (analytics data only)

We do not use your contact information for any marketing purpose. If you submit a contact form, you will only hear from us in direct response to your inquiry.

4. Consent

Under BC's PIPA, we are required to obtain your consent before collecting personal information. We obtain consent in the following ways:

Contact Form

By submitting our contact form, you are providing your express consent for Winco Earthworks to collect your name, contact information, and message content for the purpose of responding to your inquiry. A notice to this effect is displayed near the form's submit button on our website.

Analytics

By continuing to use our website after being notified of our use of Google Analytics and Google Search Console (via this Privacy Policy and, where applicable, a cookie notice), you are providing implied consent to the collection of technical browsing data as described in Section 1(b).

You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us directly. For analytics data, you can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On .

5. Disclosure to Third Parties

Winco Earthworks does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data with the following third parties only to the extent necessary to operate our website:

Google LLC

Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console process website analytics data on our behalf. Google may store and process this data on servers located in the United States or other countries outside Canada. Google's privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy.

No other third parties receive your personal information. We do not use email marketing platforms, CRM systems, payment processors, or social media tracking tools on this website.

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or in response to a lawful request from a government or regulatory authority.

6. How Long We Retain Your Information

Contact form submissions are delivered directly to our email inbox and are retained as part of our standard email records. We retain email communications for as long as they are relevant to an active or potential business relationship, and purge older records periodically.

We do not store contact form submissions in a separate database. Once a project inquiry has been resolved or closed, we have no ongoing reason to retain your personal information and will delete it upon request.

Analytics data collected through Google Analytics 4 is retained according to our GA4 data retention settings, which are currently set to a maximum of 14 months.

7. How We Protect Your Information

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information in our care from unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, or misuse. Our measures include:

  • Secure, password-protected access to our email and any systems where contact data is held
  • SSL/TLS encryption on wincoearthworks.com (https://) to protect data in transit when you submit a form
  • Limiting access to personal information to the business owners and operators of Winco Earthworks only

No method of data transmission or storage is completely secure. In the unlikely event of a privacy breach that poses a real risk of significant harm to individuals, we will notify affected persons and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia without unreasonable delay, as required under PIPA BC.

8. Your Privacy Rights Under BC PIPA

As a resident of British Columbia (or any Canadian province), you have the following rights in relation to your personal information:

  • The right to know why we are collecting your information before or at the time of collection
  • The right to access the personal information Winco Earthworks holds about you
  • The right to request a correction if that information is inaccurate or incomplete
  • The right to withdraw your consent to our use of your information, subject to legal or contractual limitations
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information where no legal retention requirement applies

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details provided in Section 10. We will acknowledge your request promptly and respond in full within 30 days.

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website uses cookies placed by Google Analytics 4. Cookies are small files stored on your device that help us understand how visitors use our site.

The cookies used by Google Analytics do not personally identify you. They track aggregate behavioural patterns — pages visited, session duration, device type — to help us understand website performance.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. You can also opt out of Google Analytics data collection by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On .

We do not use advertising cookies, marketing pixels, or social media trackers of any kind.
